Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown Metropolitan Statistical Area, as defined by the
United States Census Bureau, is an area consisting of two counties in
New York's
Hudson Valley, with the cities of
Poughkeepsie,
Newburgh, and
Middletown, and the
Arlington census-designated place as its principal cities. As of the
2000 census, the MSA had a population of 621,517 (though a July 1, 2008 estimate placed the population at 672,525). The area is centered on the
urban area of Poughkeepsie-Newburgh.
The Poughkeepsie-Newburgh-Middletown MSA is a component of the
New York–Newark–Bridgeport, NY-NJ-CT-PA Combined Statistical Area, which had an estimated population of 22,154,752 as of July 1, 2008. It is the largest
Combined Statistical Area (CSA) in the
United States.
