Route description

New York State Route 372 begins at an intersection with New York State Route 29 (Main Street) in the village of Greenwich. The route progresses to the southeast, along Main Street's right-of-way through the lesser developed parts of the village before leaving in its entirety after a bridge over the Batten Kill River. The route becomes almost immediately less developed and winds its way through the rural parts of eastern Washington County. NY 372 turns to the south at an intersection with Old Cambridge Road, which parallels the highway.right|thumb|NY 372 heading eastbound along the village of Greewnich|alt=A NY 372 shield attached a post near a telephone pole in the middle of a village
After this bend to the south, the highway becomes undeveloped, until the time the highway reaches an intersection with County Route 74A. There the development goes up slightly, and the route makes a curve to the east. On the approach to Cambridge, NY 372 intersects with County Route 60 and turns to the southeast once again. The dense woodlands surround the highway for a short distance before turning into local fields. NY 372 continues for a long distance and at an intersection with County Route 62, the highway begins to wind around the fields in the area.thumb|right|Hubbard Hall in downtown Cambridge|alt=A tall building with peaked roof and a smaller brick one next to it
After passing through the hamlet of Coila, the surroundings on NY 372 becomes developed once again. At an intersection with County Route 59, the highway turns to the east and enters the village of Cambridge. In Cambridge, the highway becomes highly developed, with many historic buildings, and is known locally as West Main Street. The route continues for several blocks until terminating at an intersection with New York State Route 22 (Park Street) in downtown Cambridge. County Route 67 continues NY 372's right-of-way out of Cambridge.

History

The entirety of NY 372 was assigned as part of the 1930 renumbering of state highways in New York.
