The MBTA Boat system is a public boat service providing water transport in the Greater Boston area via Boston Harbor. Both inner harbor and longer distance commuter ferries are operated. The services are actually operated by private sector companies under contract to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).

In fiscal year 2005, the MBTA boat system carried 4,650 passengers (0.41% of total MBTA passengers) per weekday.. Boston Metropolitan Planning Organization. May 2007. Chapter 2, pp. 2-8. Refers to: MBTA, "Ridership and Service Statistics," Tenth Edition, 2006.
