Long Island Music Hall of Fame

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame is an organization located in Lake Grove, New York. It was incorporated in July 2005 under the New York State Board of Regents as a non profit organization and holds a provisional charter to operate as a museum in the state of New York. Expansion plans include a museum of Long Island music history, a multimedia resource center, an educational facility and outreach program, and will also serve as a venue for musical performances.

Long Island musical heritage

The Hall of Fame gives the "Long Island Sound Award" to musical performers who have contributed to "Long Island's musical heritage", and held its first inaugural induction gala on October 15, 2006 at The Patchogue Theatre in Patchogue, New York., NY Daily News, Oct 17, 2006 The decision of the Hall to define "Long Island" geographically, adding Brooklyn and Queens counties in addition to the more common definition which typically only refers to Suffolk and Nassau counties has been questioned, but the Hall states that the inclusion of all four counties on the land mass is in keeping with the historic mission of the museum.
