Kra peoples

The Kra peoples are a linguistic construct, peoples of China and Vietnam who speak Kra languages. They are not an ethnicity.

Geographic Distribution

The Kra ethnic groups are clustered in the Guangxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan and Hainan Provinces of China, as well as the Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Lao Cai and Son La Provinces of Vietnam. By province and country, the individual Kra ethnic groups are geographically distributed as follows:

Kra of China

  • Guangxi Province
  • *Gelo (including the Qau, Hagei and Duoluo people)
  • *Yerong (Kra speakers, but identify themselves as Yao by nationality)
  • Guizhou Province
  • *Gelo (including the Qau, A'ou, Hagei and Duoluo people)
  • Yunnan Province
  • *Qabiao (Kra speakers, but identify themselves as Yi by nationality)
  • Hunan Province

Kra of Vietnam

  • Ha Giang Province
  • Cao Bang Province
  • Lao Cai Province
  • Son La Province
